Bible & Prayer--Who Will Be the New King over Israel?--1 Kings 1:1-27--02.04.2026
In the Old Testament books of 1st & 2nd Samuel, we followed the selection of God's chosen vessel, a king, to lead His people Israel. The King of Israel was the proven shepherd leading God's people...none other than King David!
As the pages of 1 Kings are opened, we see the waning days of the life of David, the man after God's own heart. As he is on his deathbed, who will succeed him as the new king of Israel? This is the first moment of drama as chapter 1 begins. And yet, this will be just a foretaste of the drama that is to come upon the people of Israel.
The book of 1st Kings covers from the beginning of the reign of King Solomon, the 3rd king over Israel, around 930BC and tracks the progression of the nation for more than 120 years. During the 80 years after Solomon's reign, we will follow the reigns of 4 kings of the Southern Kingdom of Judah and the reigns of 9 kings over the Northern Kingdom of Israel.
But all of this is more than just a history lesson! This book was written to a group of people in Babylonian exile. God had a word that He wanted to speak to those displaced and discouraged people! And the Lord has a word that He wants to speak to us today! Join us on this journey as we explore 1 Kings beginning here in chapter 1
